DRAGONFLY COVE

Welcome to our Dragonfly Cove Care Home and our Nook and a Book reading corner. This blog is a living, growing record of our kiddos during this beautiful time in our lives together. This kind of blogging is as personal and intimate as writing a journal or diary. Memories and experiences are the greatest gifts we can bestow on our children. Here we document and share the unique experiences, ideas and inspirations enriching our lives and the children in our care. You will see various pictures of our kiddos learning through play and inquiry in every day life

A couple of ideas and quotes related to our blog and growth...

"Life isn't about finding yourself; It's about creating yourself."
"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass; it's learning to dance in the rain"

My passion and love of learning stems from a belief that learning is a life-long process. We strive to be open and adaptable to the many changes and challenges of everyday life. I try to model continued learning as the children see me reading, studying and implementing new, creative adaptations and theory to our home indoor and outdoor environments and lives. By giving them these roots, my hope is they will also follow a path of inquiry and know as students of life, they will always be learning and growing

Here is an excerpt from "How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years" which directly pertains to our blog here...

"a means of sharing perspectives with parents and colleagues. When families and others are invited to contribute to the documentation and share their own interpretations, it can provide even more insights that children, educators, and families can return to, reflect on, and remember in order to extend learning."

We love reading your thoughts and comments! Thanks so much for embarking on this special, memorable journey with us... lots of love

Copious amounts of unfettered, unobstructed, unaltered, unbelievably joyful, FREE PLAY!

We are a mere 20 days from the start of summer and all the season brings...

Here is an excerpt from Gary Direnfeld's musings, a social worker in Keswick Ontario...

"Some parents are scrambling to find enough programs and activities to occupy their kids time...  Remember, that free time, time to explore, ride a bike, hike and be outside is also of value.  In free time kids learn to meet their needs, explore interests and learn to occupy themselves.  For so many kids, dependent upon structured activities, this is a lost skill. With the loss of this skill, away goes independence and self reliance, key skills for survival."

Well put Gary:)

Bring on Summer and copious amounts of unfettered, unobstructed, unaltered, unbelievably joyful, FREE PLAY!

Welcome to Summer♥

Make sure...

Every minute someone leaves this world behind.
We are all in “the line” without knowing it.
We never know how many people are before us.
We can not move to the back of the line.
We can not step out of the line.
We can not avoid the line.
So while we wait in line -
Make moments count.
Make priorities.
Make the time.
Make your gifts known.
Make a nobody feel like a somebody.
Make your voice heard.
Make the small things big.
Make someone smile.
Make the change.
Make love.
Make up.
Make peace.
Make sure to tell your people they are loved.
Make sure to have no regrets.
Make sure you are ready.

For my littles♥

Go, Go, Grow

Heading out to the garden
(Heading out to my garden)
With your seeds in your hand
(With my seeds in my hand)
Got your goulashes on
(Got my goulashes on)
And your watering can
(And my watering can)
Find a sunny spot
(Find a sunny spot)
Dig a little hole
(Dig a little hole)
Plant your seeds right there
(Plant my seeds right there)
And watch them go, go, grow
Little seed, what will you be
A daisy, a pumpkin or an apple tree
Little seed, one day you may be
A poppy, a carrot or some broccoli
Little seed, what will you be
A watermelon or some strawberries
Little seed, just what will you be
Take your watering can
(Take my watering can)
Give it a little tip
(Give it a little tip)
Not too much water
(Not too much water)
Just a little bit
(Just a little bit)
In a couple of days
(In a couple of days)
A little sprout will show
(A little sprout will show)
You gotta cheer it on
(You gotta cheer it on)
Come on, go, go, grow!
Little seed, what will you be
Some roses, tomatoes or some celery
Little seed, one day you may be
Corn, cucumber or some rosemary
Little seed, what will you be
Some squash, snapdragons or a vine of peas
Little seed, I can’t wait to see
Hey, did you know
That we are all just like these seeds
That need to grow
So make sure that you,
Eat your fruits and vegetables
And little seeds, take care
And you will know
That everyday you’ll grow, grow, grow!
So, little seed, what will you be
A baker, a dentist or a hockey goalie
Little seed, what will you be
A nurse, fire fighter or a secretary
Little seed, what will you be
A gardening parent with a family
Little seed, what do you want to be
Oh little seed, I can’t wait to see!

We Will...

There are 15 days until the Spring Equinox...

My little ones will once again relish in the joys and freedom of mud and puddles...
They will run wild in the wakening forest to speak the language of trees...
They will create sweet music echoing the songs of the birds...
They will inhale deeply refreshed with a morning breeze filling their lungs...
They will help the busy bees pollinate a new season by letting dandelions grow...
They will happily dance along gathering wishes to scatter on the wind on a lazy evening...

They will sip the sweet syrup freshly made from the sap of the majestic maple...
They will treasure and revel in the blooming of each fresh new spring blossom...
They will dance in the rain and marvel at the power and beauty of nature...
They will bask in the light of millions of stars and blow a kiss to follow a wish...
They will be wrapped in the warm, loving glow and blessings of family and friends...
They will share in memories and values in this beautiful, hygge moment of spring renewal♥

Preparing the spirit...

“I think the human spirit is like a daffodil bulb, preparing for the spring by refreshing its roots, so it can bloom again when the time comes,” the poetic musings of Stafford Whiteaker

I'm back to reading poetry with my babes and enjoying the hibernation part of winter... January was a difficult, challenging month for my emotional well being, my mental state and my spiritual health... I am definitely ready for renewal...

"The best way to cheer yourself up is to cheer somebody else up" ~ Mark Twain

What a wonderful thought and theme for February.  Immersing ourselves in act of spreading joy will fill the buckets of others and in turn fill our own buckets.  Here's to hygge thoughts, feelings and actions this February... we raise a cup of cheer to you♥
