DRAGONFLY COVE

Welcome to our Dragonfly Cove Care Home and our Nook and a Book reading corner. This blog is a living, growing record of our kiddos during this beautiful time in our lives together. This kind of blogging is as personal and intimate as writing a journal or diary. Memories and experiences are the greatest gifts we can bestow on our children. Here we document and share the unique experiences, ideas and inspirations enriching our lives and the children in our care. You will see various pictures of our kiddos learning through play and inquiry in every day life

A couple of ideas and quotes related to our blog and growth...

"Life isn't about finding yourself; It's about creating yourself."
"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass; it's learning to dance in the rain"

My passion and love of learning stems from a belief that learning is a life-long process. We strive to be open and adaptable to the many changes and challenges of everyday life. I try to model continued learning as the children see me reading, studying and implementing new, creative adaptations and theory to our home indoor and outdoor environments and lives. By giving them these roots, my hope is they will also follow a path of inquiry and know as students of life, they will always be learning and growing

Here is an excerpt from "How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years" which directly pertains to our blog here...

"a means of sharing perspectives with parents and colleagues. When families and others are invited to contribute to the documentation and share their own interpretations, it can provide even more insights that children, educators, and families can return to, reflect on, and remember in order to extend learning."

We love reading your thoughts and comments! Thanks so much for embarking on this special, memorable journey with us... lots of love

Mother's Song (A Traditional Lullaby)

My heart is like a fountain true
that flows and flows with love to you
as chirps the lark unto the tree
so chirps my pretty babe to me

There is not a rose wherever I seek
as comely as my baby's cheek
there's not a comb of honey bee
so full of sweets as babe to me

There's not a star that shines on high
is brighter than my baby's eye
There's not a boat upon the sea
can dance as baby does to me

No silk was ever spun so fine
as is the hair of baby mine
My baby smells more sweet to me
than smells in spring the elder tree

A little fish swims in the well
So in my heart does baby dwell
A little flower blows on the tree
My baby is the flower to me

Ten thousand parks where deer do run
Ten thousand roses in the sun
Ten thousand pearls beneath the sea
my babe more precious is to me.

I’m living Hands Free

I want to make memories,
Not to-do lists.
I want to feel the squeeze of my child’s arms,
Not the pressure of over-commitment.
I want to get lost in conversation with the people I love,
Not consumed by a sea of unimportant emails.
I want to be overwhelmed by sunsets that give me hope,
Not by overloaded agendas that steal my joy.
I want the noise of my life to be a mixture of laughter and gratitude,
Not the intrusive buzz of cell phones and text messages.
I am letting go of distraction & perfection
To live a more simple life consisting of what really matters.
I’m living Hands Free.

The joy of your first year♥

Covered in cake and icing, your smile stretched ear to ear.
A single candle celebrates, the joy of your first year.

We sing Happy Birthday Deanna, you play midst wrap and bows.
We marvel at how you touched our lives, just one year ago.

Your three brothers watchful over you, giving hugs and kisses as you smile.       Delighting in your giggles and playfulness, every second worth all the while.

I remember the first time I held you, kissed your head and whispered your name.
You've changed our lives forever, our hearts will never be the same.

As a child you'll love this day, for all the sweets and presents too.
As a family we'll love your day, for the gift we got was you.

Each year we'll add another candle, so proud to see you grow.
But always with the memory, of your first day long ago.

New Baby, New Journey...

Every baby is born into a new family... for that family is forever altered and forever changed by the miracle of life:)  I picked up a lovely new nature journal at Mariposa Market today. We're getting so excited for the new adventures we'll have with the new baby this spring.  It goes well with the fantastic new jogging stroller we picked up with big bicycle wheels;)  Wherever the boys wish us to explore and discover with the new baby... we'll be up to the challenge and have a journal to record our journey in:)

Unique

"As human beings, our job in life is to help people realize how rare and valuable each one of us really is, that each of us has something that no one else has—or ever will have—something inside that is unique to all time. It's our job to encourage each other to discover that uniqueness and to provide ways of developing its expression." Fred Rogers

2012 Autumn, back to school and big changes...

2012 Autumn, back to school and big changes...

The kids are heading to a new school, embarking on a promising new year of learning and growing.  We had an extremely busy summer with the purchase of our beautiful new home in the country.  The kids feel like we moved into the forest or a park with all space and mature trees.  We feel so very blessed... words can't express how happy and content we are here.   We have much to be thankful for heading into the season of Thanksgiving♥
Where we love is home
Home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts.
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.
As always, back to school remains ever bitter-sweet as I miss my sweet babes as they go off on their own adventures.  We enjoyed the summer reading program at the library and always had volumes to read under our shady trees.  Autumn is almost upon us once again and I like to pack a short poem as a small piece of home to take with them when they go to school.

Autumn Bird Song
Over the housetops,
Over the trees,
Winging their way
In a stiff fall breeze.

A flock of birds
Is flying along
Southward, for winter,
Singing a song.

Singing a song
They all like to sing,
"We'll see you again
When it's spring, spring, spring."
Autumn Wind
When autumn wind goes running
It does some magic things.
It gives the shadows dancing shoes,
It gives the bright leaves wings -
When autumn wind goes running.

It curls the bonfire's tail of smoke
And shares a little whispered joke
With cornstalks who delight to prattle,
It turns a seed pod into a rattle -
When autumn wind goes running.

An Autumn Greeting

"Come," said the Wind to the Leaves one day.
"Come over the meadow and we will play.
Put on your dresses of red and gold.
For summer is gone and the days grow cold."
